Striperman: Confessions and Secrets of a Commercial Pin-Hooker

In this book, I will try to cover the finer points about catching trophy-sized stripers, as well as my personal story as a lifelong fanatical fisherman who ultimately become a commercial rod-and-reel fisherman, or Pin-Hooker, and a tackle entrepreneur. You will find information that includes secrets the pros know and don't want to tell you. What you will not find is what has already been written many times. No chapters about the history of stripers, knots, casting lures, accessories, anatomy, migration routes, spawning cycles, or economic value. My intention will not be to hash over the same old stuff unless it is important enough that it needs to be said more than once. If you want to know how to catch schoolies, this is not the book for you. Stripers in this book will be referred to in pounds, not inches. You may notice that many of my opinions differ from the mainstream and the experts; when this occurs, I will try to explain.

The challenge of writing a meaningful book cannot be overstated. I love a good challenge; moreover, I like to teach. The look on someone's face when drifting for stripers and I say, "You are going to get a bite right now." They set the hook and feel the brute strength of a thirty-five-pound fish - well, that look is priceless. This book should answer the first question they ask: "How did you know ?°' The short answer is sixty years of experience. This includes thirty»five years for striped bass, ten for pin-hooking, and twenty-five for sport fishing. Additionally, in the meantime, for ten years, I was co-owner of the Rivers End Bait and Tackle Company. I have done some guiding and, on occasion, been a mate on a charter boat. After studying every conceivable method of catching stripers, including surf fishing, fly fishing, and, primarily, fishing from a boat, I should know something!
